Dress Like a French Woman

A Parisian-inspired one-page style guide for effortless, everyday dressing.

Overall, Paris is a very safe city and I have never once felt unsafe. However, there are a few
tips to keep in mind when visiting the city of light.

  • Be smart and keep an eye on your belongings at all times, this includes on the metro specifically and around major tourist attractions (Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc.)
  • Don’t carry around big shopping bags with designer names on them. Hop in a taxi or Uber and take your bags back to your hotel or Airbnb before continuing on.
  • Beware of people asking for money of any kind on the street, or asking you to sign something.
  • At tourist spots such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, they will try and ask you to sign something to distract you, so they can pickpocket you. Just WALK AWAY, don’t engage with them at all no matter what they do or say.
  • Phone snatching is big in Paris so always beware of your phone. Don’t put it in your back pocket ever, don’t lean out the taxi to take photos, be careful if you set it out on a table, and especially hold onto it when in busy locations. Keep in mind, if you want to use one of those holders to keep your phone around your neck, that screams tourist.
  • Men, don’t put your wallet in your back pocket.
  • Don’t ever let someone come up to you at the Metro station offering to help you buy tickets. Only buy your tickets at valid machines or a proper kiosk/ticket desk.
  • Don’t let anyone offer you anything for free: a rose, a bracelet, or a gold ring, these are all scams. Just always say no and walk away.
