The city of Paris is divided into 20 districts known locally as arrondissements. Think of each one as a little neighborhood, with its own vibe and endless list of things to do.
The best way to describe how the arrondissements are mapped out in Paris is like a snail, unfurling clockwise.
The first arrondissement leads into the second, the third, and the fourth, before dropping to the other side of the Seine into the fifth, across to the sixth, and continuing on.
Throughout the guide, when describing an area, I will refer to the arrondissement in which it’s located because this is how locals describe it.
