Paris has no shortage of amazing places to eat being the food destination of the world. Here are my favorite places to eat breakfast when I am in Paris. A few of these are touristy but the views alone are worth the experience.
After all, Paris is all about experiencing beautiful architecture, art, fashion, culture, and food. Depending on what type of experience you are looking for, these places to eat breakfast in Paris might be the ones to put on your list.
Of course, you can always just go to the boulangerie and buy a morning pastry which is more economical and a completely different experience.
What Do French People Eat For Breakfast
You might be surprised to learn that French people don’t necessarily eat the big breakfast we do in the States. Instead, they choose items like a pastry(in moderation of course), a baguette with jam, or fruit and yogurt.
However, there are still lots of options for breakfast in Paris, and you might as well be like the French. If you are interested in reading more about what French people eat, see this post.
Places To Eat Breakfast In Paris
Le Café Marly
With views of the Louvre right in front of you, Le Café Marly is a beautiful spot to start your day. You feel like you’re inside an old library yet the terrace is completely open overlooking the pyramid.
There is also an interior section for eating as well but the reason to come here is to sit outside on the terrace.
You’re not coming here for the most amazing food or service, but more for the atmosphere and views. Go with something simple like a baguette with jam or croissant and café crème.
Café Marly is very touristy but it’s still worth a visit for at least a coffee. It’s also a great place to bring kids in the morning as they will have fun watching all the people at the Louvre.
The café is open well into the evening as well and I would recommend making a reservation online.
Café de Flore
Café de Flore is probably one of my favorite places to eat breakfast in Paris. In fact, I make sure to go here every time I am in Paris and sometimes even twice. Usually, I am staying in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, so it makes it convenient.
This is an iconic café in Paris, and one of the oldest, that used to be frequented by famous intellects and writers. It’s still famous to this day but it’s also pretty touristy as well as a social media favorite.
However, it’s still a popular café among locals as well. I would recommend getting here early. It can get quite busy with tourists as the day goes on.
Try to sit outside on the terrace and see some of the best people watching in the city. Café de Flore has quite an extensive breakfast menu but my favorite is always a pain au chocolate along with a café crème.
Le Meurice Hotel
A more elegant and expensive option for breakfast is at Le Meurice Hotel in the 1st arrondissement. This is one of the most beautiful, elegant, and opulent hotels in Paris.
There are two rooms serving breakfast, the Restaurant Le Dalí, a setting which looks like it’s inside of a Dalí painting. Or, the room inspired by the Salon de la Paix at Versailles.
This is a place where you will spend more for breakfast but if you are wanting a beautiful experience or celebrating a special occasion, this is the place.
You should make a reservation and can request the Versailles room, however, it’s not always guaranteed. That room is first reserved for customers at the hotel.
There is also a dress code for the breakfast but I loved putting on a pretty dress and enjoying the opulent setting.
Café Lapérouse
A restaurant with an incredible terrace plus a gorgeous interior, Café Lapérouse, is a chic spot for breakfast to start your day.
This is a spinoff of the already famous restaurant, Lapérouse, on the left bank. The inside of Café Lapérouse is decorated by the artistic director of Dior Maison and Baby Dior.
There are numerous breakfast options to choose from and the food is quite tasty. After breakfast, you can go through the Hôtel de la Marine, which is just upstairs.
Café Verlet
Located in the 1st arrondissement, Café Verlet has been around since 1880. Verlet is the oldest Parisian coffee company still in business.
You can choose between more than 30 pure-origin coffees and over 40 different teas from across the world. The atmosphere is a beautiful setting that looks like out of the 1920s.
It’s quiet and has plenty of locals either eating breakfast, ordering coffee or picking up the coffee beans they ordered to use at home.
Café Verlet offers seasonal selections of breakfast items and incredible pastries. If you are looking for a quiet yet charming and beautiful place for breakfast in Paris, this is your spot.
Angelina
If this is your first trip to Paris, I always recommend having breakfast at Angelina specifically. Angelina is the quintessential Parisian tea house, famous for its sweets and hot chocolate, all in a beautiful setting.
Since, 1903 Angelina has become a Parisian institution, but it’s also touristy as well. They no longer take reservations, so it’s best to line up early if you want to try and get in, especially during peak tourist times.
Angelina does have several spots throughout Paris, however, nothing beats the original location at 226 Rue de Rivoli, in the 1st arrondissement.
The most popular breakfast is the Angelina breakfast, consisting of mini pastries, eggs, jam and bread, juice, a hot drink, and muesli.
You can also buy a selection of teas and sweets at the store which is located at the restaurant.
