Dress Like a French Woman

A Parisian-inspired one-page style guide for effortless, everyday dressing.

Hotel Mansart

During my time in Paris this April, we stayed at Hotel Mansart, located in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. The hotel is within walking distance of Place Vendôme and the Ritz Hotel. If you are looking for a hotel with close access to The Louvre, Tuileries Gardens, and department stores like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, this hotel is great.

The hotel has a rich history dating back to 1720 when it was first built and used as a home for the jeweler to the Crown. The building became Hotel Mansart at the end of the 19th century, but each room still reflects an important part of history.

Hotel Mansart has 57 rooms decorated with antique furniture and beautiful fabrics. We stayed in the Superior Room with the Terrace, and I couldn’t have been more delighted with the view. There are only two rooms with a terrace, so double-check if you book this hotel you have the right room.

The Terrace

The terrace is a decent size with a small table and two chairs, enough for morning coffee or to come back and have a glass of champagne in the evening. What made this hotel incredible is the view from the room looking out onto the beautiful Parisian buildings. The light was so beautiful in the early mornings and evenings that I honestly couldn’t stop staring. It’s very difficult in Paris to find a hotel room with a terrace at a reasonable price.

For Paris hotels, the room and bathroom were quite large actually and very impressive. I stayed in another Paris hotel where I was hardly able to put my suitcase anywhere and the bathroom was incredibly small. The room at Hotel Mansart had a writing desk, another large table with a Nespresso machine, and a small refrigerator.

Special Welcoming

Hotel Mansart also added several touches to the room, which made it even more special and welcoming. Upon arrival, they left a bottle of champagne and a personalized note in the room. Throughout the week, the staff would also leave little chocolates in the room, which were a nice treat to return to at the end of the day.

On the 1st level was the breakfast room, which also served as a bar in the afternoon and evening. It worked off an honor system, and you just write down what you took. We actually took advantage of this in the evening when we wanted some sparkling water to take back to our room.

There are only a few downsides I would say to this hotel. We couldn’t figure out how to control the temperature in the room and wanted to leave the doors open most nights. However, there are 2 very busy cafes below the room which were so noisy, it made it hard to sleep some nights. Also, this is a pretty touristy area, so you will have to be prepared to deal with that.

Overall, the staff is friendly at Hotel Mansart, it’s in a location which is convenient to lots of sights, and again the view from the room is breathtaking.
