The Nespresso Creatista Plus Espresso Machine

The Nespresso Creatista Plus Espresso Machine by Breville, is my favorite espresso machine we have ever had. So much in fact, if it broke today, I’d immediately run out and get another one.

I always like to determine the value of things by how much the item is used and I can tell you the Nespresso Creatista Plus has definitely earned its value in our house.

This post is a long time coming and one I receive questions about weekly, so I thought it was time for a proper and honest review of the Nespresso Creatista Plus.

We’ve had our Nespresso for about two years now and it’s honestly one of the best purchases we have ever made.

Past Espresso Machines

In the past, we have had several espresso makers but they were always cheap ones that didn’t cost much and you know what they say. You get what you pay for, so needless to say those espresso makers didn’t last very long.

When we were deciding which kind to buy we knew immediately we wanted it to be Nespresso. Besides having a love for Nespresso coffee itself, the coffee pod was very intriguing to us.

Neither one of us wanted to take the time to measure out coffee or grind beans like you have to do with other espresso makers.

A few things we wanted were the ability to make multiple drink options, use 3rd party capsules, an easy milk frother, and for it to look nice sitting on the counter.

The Nespresso Creatista Plus fits all these options and more.

What Kind Of Pods To Use

When it comes to what kinds of pods to use there are several different brands that will work with the Nespresso Creatista.

Obviously, you can order directly from Nespresso either on the website or you can download the app on your phone and order that way. You have to order in a sleeve of 10 pods but that’s not hard to do.

Some favorite flavors from Nespresso are Vanilla, Carmel Creme Brulee, and Fortissio Lungo. You can also order depending on the strength level you prefer.

The one thing about ordering from the Nespresso site is that you can also request a recycle bag. Thankfully, Nespresso has a program where you can send back your used pods free of charge and they will recycle them through composting.

We also order pods through Amazon as well, especially when we need them within 24 hours. You can order Starbucks Nespresso pods specifically for this machine.

We like to order Starbucks Blonde Roast, and we also order Illy pods as well from Amazon.

What Kind Of Drinks Can You Make

With the Nespresso Creatista Plus, you can pretty much make any espresso drink your heart desires.

The machine is preprogrammed to make 7 different types of drinks: espresso, flat white, cappuccino, café latte, latte macchiato, ristretto, lungo, and hot milk.

Mostly, we use the espresso, lungo, and café latte options. One of my favorite drinks to make is a French Café Crème.

If you are looking for what would normally be called, drip coffee, then the Lungo setting would be your best option.

You can also make an iced coffee although there’s no “iced coffee” setting. I usually just fill a glass with ice, a splash of half and half, and use the espresso setting.

What Kind Of Milk To Use

The type of milk you will want to use depends on how you want your milk to froth/foam. Coffee experts say the best milk to use for frothing would be Whole Milk.

I have tried skim milk and found it didn’t work very well and hardly produced any foam with the milk frother. Almond and Coconut Milk were ok but not great with frothing.

If you are looking for dairy-free alternatives, I have tried both Oat Milk and Soy Milk and they both work well.

How To Make A Drink

It couldn’t be any simpler really to make whichever coffee drink you want for that day. You just put a pod in the top of the machine and select which drink option you want.

The machine is very intuitive and will tell if you need to froth the milk first or let the coffee dispense first. The machine works quickly, once you put it in the pod it will start dispensing within 3 seconds.

When you’re making more of a specialty drink like a cappuccino or latte, you can decide on the temperature of the milk.

You can also adjust the size of drink you are wanting with 3 sizes available.

How To Clean The Nespresso Creatista Plus

When it comes to cleaning, it’s very simple. There are a few compartments you just pull out and rinse off.

I usually pull out the drip pan every few days and do a scrub cleaning to get any residual coffee off. Make sure to clean the steam wand after each use however, the machine will tell you if you need to clean the wand.

You will need to descale the machine about every 6 months and the machine will alert you when it’s time to descale. I ordered this cleaning solution from Amazon to help with the process.
